Andy Pagés was selected as player of the week from April 11 to 16 in the Texas League (Double A). For Andy it was his first award of this kind with the Tulsa Drillers, the last time he selected for an award was in December 2021 with the Great Lakes Loons.
During the week he played in six games against the Midland RockHounds (Oakland’s AA farm club) and batted a robust .444 . In addition to that, he slugged two homers, two doubles and drove in ten runs. For the season the season the young outfielder is hitting .393 after nine games, with four doubles, two home runs, nine walks and 13 RBIs. He is also slashing .561/.750/1.311.
Pagés leads the Texas League in OBP (.561) and OPS (1.311), is second in doubles (4), third in RBIs (13) and fourth in and fourth runs scored (9). The Pinar del Río native who signed for $300,000 in October 2017 has hit 86 home runs in 367 professional games. Although he struggled a little bit at the plate last season in Double-A .236 , he still led the Texas League in extra-base hits with 58 and ranked third in the circuit with 26 home runs.
Pages gets his raw power more from a combination of bat speed and leverage. He has the potential to hit 30 home runs a season, but Double-A pitchers took advantage of his aggressive hitting and approach last season leading him to strikeout 140 times. He’s a smart hitter who walks and makes adjustments when he’s in two strike counts, but he also has penchant for chasing too many pitches out of the zone and sometimes gives away at-bats. He is currently the number 6 prospect in his organization and the 77th in MLB’s top 100.
