Cuba is not invited to the Serie del Caribe, but another event looms on the horizon.

The 2024 Caribbean Series will take place at the loanDepot Park in the city of Miami and it is already a fact that Cuba will not be a guest on this occasion. The four full members of the Caribbean Confederation (Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Mexico) will be joined as guests by the representatives of Curaçao and Nicaragua.

In this regard, the Caribbean Commissioner, Juan F. Puello Herrera commented: “We welcome the inclusion of Curaçao and Nicaragua in the next SDC to be held at the loanDepot Park in Miami, this Caribbean Series marks a very special event, because we will also be celebrating of the 66th edition of the event, the 75th anniversary of the birth of the Caribbean Confederation”.

It is still necessary to proceed with the official signing of the respective participation agreements, which will be discussed between the guests, the CBPC and the Confederation of Professional Baseball Players of the Caribbean (CONPEPROCA), the latter certifying that the interests of the players of the teams guests are homologated to the rest of the participants, and with this make the officialization, as established by the statutes of the Confederation during the Ordinary General Assembly in July.

Next Saturday, April 29, the Miami Marlins will dedicate their game at loanDepot Park against the Chicago Cubs, to the 2024 Caribbean Series, for which the Caribbean Commissioner himself, Juan F. Puello Herrera, Presidents and Directors of the Leagues will be present. Members, LIDOM, LBPRC, LAMP and LVBP, as well as the two nations invited to the tournament next February, Nicaragua and Curaçao, and even the first sports ambassadors of participating leagues for the 66th edition of the Caribbean tournament, the Dominican Vladimir Guerrero, will be present. and the Venezuelan Omar Vizquel.

As confirmed, the Confederation requested $200,000 from the invited teams, something that caused discontent among baseball representatives of the Colombian League, due to the impossibility of resources to attend. “We disagree. Colombia is an organized league that attended four series, winning one of them. Colombian baseball cannot attend where they demand a large sum from the two invited leagues”, said Pedro Salcedo, president of the Professional Baseball Division.

“Nicaragua had the support of its government and Curaçao from an independent protector because they understand there is no league there but money. Panama will not go either. We with Panama will organize something with Cuba and teams from the East (Japan or Taiwan). We are working on that,” Salcedo said.
