Jorge Martínez hurled six innings where he only allowed three runs and retired six via the strikeout in York’s 13-0 shutout of Staten Island. The crafty righty won his first game of the season and watched his earned run average descend to 2.45 on the season.
Alejandro Rivero helped his countrymen’s cause with a homer and four runs batted in during his four trips to the plate. The third baseman saw his average jump to a robust .400 on the campaign. Rivero who is slashing .537/.765/1.307 to open the season might just be drawing the interest of a few foreign teams.
