Elian Leyva wins his second in the CPBL. (+Asian League Report)

Elian Leyva continues to dominate in the Chinese Professional Baseball League. This morning the Cuban right-hander hurled 5 ⅔ innings where he gave up a run via four hits, but he also struck four in Rakuten’s 4-2 victory over Uni-Lions.

Leyva’s ERA fell to 2.63 and he has now fanned 19 in 24 innings pitched on the season. The righty also sports a sterling 1.13 WHIP and opponents hit a paltry .173 against Leyva.

In Japan Ariel Martinez struck out three times in five at-bats to lower his average to .253 in the Nippon Ham Fighters’ 4-2, 12-inning loss to the Seibu Lions at Es Con Field in Hokkaido. After a recent streak the slugging catcher’s bat has suddenly gone cold.

In the KBO Guillermo Heredia collected a hit in four at-bats and drew a walk in SSG’s 5-3 loss to the NC Dinos. Although his average dropped to .366 the Cuban still leads the KBO in that category.
