Pinch-hit double by Gurriel key in Miami’s comeback win. (+Cuban MLB Report)

Yuli Gurriel laced a key 7th inning double that tied a game between Miami and St. Louis at four setting the stage for Cuban-American Nick Fortes single to right that gave the Marlins a 5-4 advantage that would not relinquish. Gurriel upped his average to .271 on the campaign and knocked in his 16th run of the season.

In defeat another Cuban-American, Nolan Arenado drove in a run via a sac fly in that same 7th inning, but the Cardinals’ relievers could not hold a late 4-2 advantage. The third baseman now has 55 runs batted in on the campaign.

José Abreu went yard for the seventh time on the season, drove in four runs and scored on two occasions to lead the Astros to a 12-11 win over Texas. The Cuban slugger is hitting .357 and has driven in nine runs in his last seven games.

Adolis García also deposited a ball in the seats and plated two runs with the longball in defeat. The outfielder from Ciego de Avila, Cuba now leads MLB in runs batted in with 69. García will also play in his second All-Star Game later this month.
