Roenis Elías pitches effectively, but falls to the KT Wiz. (+Asian League Report)

Roenis Elías tossed five innings in which he gave up three earned runs via nine hits and struck out four to drop his fourth contest of the season in SSG’s 3-1 loss to KT. The lefty from Guantánamo, Cuba saw his ERA jump to 4.19 on the season.

His teammate and countrymen Guillermo Heredia went 1-for-2 on the evening and upped his average to .332 on the season leaving first in the KBO in that category. Heredia has been a key bat for the defending champion Landers this season.

In Japan Ariel Martinez went hitless in an official at-bat, scored a run and walked 3 times to lower his average to .250 as the Lotte Marines beat the Nippon Ham Fighters 7-5 at ZOZO Marine Stadium in Chiba.

Dayán Viciedo singled in a pinch-hitting appearance and drove in a run, but his efforts were insufficient to prevent the Chunichi Dragons from losing 5-2 to the Hanshin Tigers at the Vantelin Dome in Nagoya. The first baseman from Villa Clara, Cuba who had not seen action in the team’s last two games, raised his average to .241 and his RBI total to 11.
