Gurriel’s three-run shot is key in Arizona’s win. (+Cuban MLB Report)

Lourdes Gurriel Jr deposited his 24th ball in the seats on the season to help Arizona win a tight 6-4 games over the Cubs and maintain their ½ game lead over Miami in the wildcard race. The youngest of the Gurriel clan has been a key figure at the plate for the Diamondbacks this season.

José Abreu went yard for the 15th time on the season, drove in a run and also scored on an occasion, but his best efforts could not prevent an Astros’ 4-2 loss to Kansas City. Abreu is hitting .320 and has driven in 11 runs in his last seven games. Yordan Álvarez also added a run-scoring double in three at-bats to aid the cause.

Nick Castellanos went yard in the first inning for the 24th time on the season, a three-run shot which was only hit on the night in Philly’s 5-4 win over the Cardinals. The Cuban-American slugger has now knocked in 93 and has swatted 61 XBH’s on the campaign.

Nolan Arenado knocked in a run via third inning single amongst his two hits in four at-bats. The third baseman watched his average rise to .270 on the season and driving in at least 90 runs for the eighth time in his career. Arenado also boasts a .469 slugging percentage on the season.
