Franky Quintana has decided to leave Cuba again in search of a professional signing. The pitcher decided to immigrate from the island in 2015 to the Dominican Republic in search of signing with a team only to return to Cuba in 2019 after failing to sign a contract with a professional baseball team.
Earlier today the colleague Francys Romero reported that the pitcher decided to abandon the Cuban delegation in San Juan at the Copa del Caribe search of another shot in signing a professional contract. Quintana was part of the WBC 2023 team, he was a pitcher placed on the reserve list pitching in the team’s preparation games in Japan.

In those games, Quintana had four starts, pitched 4.2 innings, allowed two runs (3.86), struck out four batters and walked four. Then he attended the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador with the Cuban team and won a silver medal in the competition.
Last year he pitched with Tabacaleros in the I Liga Elite and in the National Series 62 with his Piratas de la Isla de la Juventud he pitched in 25 games, posting a record of 6-4 with 11 saves. He also tossed 48.2 innings, allowed 15 earned runs (ERA: 2.77), opponents hit .234 against him and he fanned out 37 opponents. Armando Ferrer had requested him as a reinforcement for Matanzas in this year’s Liga Élite.
The funny thing is that Cuba decided against letting Yunieski García letting travel with the team for fear of him being a flight risk. Franky who is 28-years-old, is a pitcher with many resources, his fastball remains above 90 MPH, something that he combines with an excellent slider that can help him florish in the Caribbean Leagues or Liga Mexicana de Béisbol.
