Félix Pérez went yard in four trips to the plate, a three-run in the first inning off his countrymen Lázaro Blanco. Although he drove in all three runs, Jalisco still fell to Mazatlán 5-3. Pérez is now hitting .250 after the inaugural game of the season.

In his own right Blanco, who did not factor in the decision tossed five innings where he gave up three hits and aside from Pérez’s homerun was not touched for anymore scores. The right-hander from Yara, Cuba also fanned fanned and walked three during his outing.

Yasmany Tomás was the only other Cuban to see action on the evening for Los Mochis and went hitless in four at-bats. The reigning league MVP also struck twice on the day and the Cañeros also fell to Navojoa 9-4. Tomás led the LaMP in various statistical categories last season.

In other news Odrisamer Despaigne will take the mound tonight for the first time for the Yaquis de Ciudad Obregón against the Águilas de Mexicali. The righty from Havana pitched in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol this summer posting a 5-6 record and a 5.22 ERA.
