Yunesky Maya “El Guerrero” began pitching this Friday in practice for the Águilas Cibaeñas. The Cuban is expected to return to the mound between November 7-12 after feeling shoulder discomfort to start the season that has kept him from pitching during the first two weeks of the regular season in the LIDOM.
Maya was the leader in ERA during the 2022 season with 1.34 in 40.1 innings. The right-hander from Pinar del Río, Cuba posted a 3-1 record and fanned 24 batters over that span, the hurler’s WHIP for the season was also a magnificent 1.08. The savvy righty during his time in the Dominican circuit has a 22-21 record and a 2.79 earned run average. This includes pitcher of the year awards in 2011 and 2016.
This summer Maya pitched in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol with the Diablos Rojos de México City and the Guerreros de Oaxaca compiling a 5-2 record and 4.26 ERA in 17 starts on the season. In what could possibly be his final season in the LIDOM Maya looks to add another ring to a trophy case that already six with five different teams.
