Yesterday the Rawlings Gold Glove winners were announced in the American League and Adolis García was the recipient in rightfield. It has been fulfilling year in the career of the native of Ciego de Ávila,Cuba. García not wins the Gold Glove, but he was also selected to the All-Star Game for the second time in his career and was the ALCS MVP.
García, who also slugged 39 dingers, the rightfielder was dandy on defense. In 1,185 innings this season he posted a DRS of 7, UZR of 6.4 and UZR/150 7.2. Strapped with a cannon arm he also added 11 assists on the campaign and with these numbers he was a shoe-in to win the award.
The outfielder also had an OAA and RAA of 2. “El Bombi” as he is known by the Cuban faithful did make an alarming six errors in the field, but he also posted an ARM of 8.7 on the campaign. Over his career the Cuban has 37 outfield assists. García is also versatile enough to play all three outfield positions.
