Dayán García: “I will do everything possible to do my best to help this team win a championship.”

Dayán García has flown under the radar for sometime now, the infielder is one of the most underrated talents that remains on the island. García is one of the players who has faired best in the Serie Nacional in recent years. He has cranked out over a 1,000 hits during his career in Cuba.

First he was a member of the Cuban team that was in the Pre-Olympic of the Americas and now he also had the opportunity to be part of a team along with several players who play in professional baseball. Without a doubt, the native of San Antonio de los Baños, province of Artemisa, is a player on the rise. Although he didn’t see much action in the WBC he was on of the few players exclusively from the Serie Nacional to make the squad.

Last season in the Cuban circuit García hit .377 with 15 homeruns, 51 runs batted in and slashed a robust .487/.627/1.114. Two days ago the slugger hit his first homerun in the league, a three-run shot that propelled Chinandega to a win 6-5 win over Bóer.

Welcome, how does it feel to be playing in Nicaragua?

I feel very happy, I thank management, the team and the fans for welcoming me here. I am committed to Chinandega. I will do everything possible to do my best to help this team win a championship.

How much do you know about Nicaraguan baseball?

I have a lot of knowledge, I have been friends with Rubi Silva for several years, for me it is a pleasure to be here and enjoy playing in this league. It is a league that is developing and already has a few players in the Major Leagues .

Dayán it is difficult to get 100 hits in any league, yet you 1,000 hits in the Serie Nacional, that is something serious.

Yes, I think it took many years of sacrifice and dedication to baseball to achieve that milestone, I think it is quite difficult, but I have always focused on my training, on improving, and thank God things I have achieved these results .
