Yadiel Hernández collected two hits in three at-bats, including a key two-run double in the fourth inning and he also made a run-saving catch in leftfield in the bottom of that inning to help the Águilas Cibaeñas break a 9-game losing streak with a win over Licey 3-2. The slugger is third in the Dominican circuit with a .344 batting average.
Also in the LIDOM Jorge Martínez closed the show last night for las Estrellas Orientales in the 8-3 win over the Gigantes del Cibao. The right-hander from Matanzas pitched a scoreless ninth and fanned two batters to watch his ERA descend to 2.84. Roel Santos helped the cause with a single and run scored in three trips to the plate.
In Venezuela Edgar Escobar tossed five innings of two-hit one run ball to notch his second victory of the campaign in Anzoátegui’s 10-5 win over Aragua. The righty from Granma, Cuba struck out three on the evening and saw his gawdy ERA fall to 6.43 on the season.
