Henry Urrutia: ” Solidarity and basic needs are key for the flood victims in DR.”

In something not related with the game, defending LIDOM batting champion Henry Urrutia made a plea in his interview with Alejandra Díaz-Bonilla of RC Noticias to masses worldwide in an attempt to aid the flood victims in the Dominican Republic. Over the weekend the country was hit with torrential rains causing the death of at least 21 people and over 13,000 more to be evacuated.

In a humanitarian move, which is very common for the big-hearted slugger, the native of Cuba used his platforms on the social networks to call on Dominican society to mobilize help for the victims, especially in the Nagua area, heavily affected by the natural disaster.

During the interview with Díaz- Bonilla, Urrutia expressed his deep concern about the lack of attention and support for the affected communities. Emphasizing the importance of not looking for blame, but for solutions, he urged society to join a cause led by Noely Chicate, a 20-year-old girl who has been coordinating efforts to bring food and supplies to people in need.

The initiative, supported by Urrutia, seeks to collect basic needs such as eggs, bread, salami, and any help possible. In addition, it was announced that the Julián Javier stadium will be available as a collection center to receive donations. The player, after obtaining the approval of the directors of the Gigantes del Cibao team, invited his colleagues and the entire community of Dominican baseball fans to join this noble cause.

He called for solidarity, remembering that even the smallest donations, like a bottle of water, can make a difference in the lives of those who have lost everything. Urrutia announced that he himself will contribute to the cause and encouraged others to join this solidarity effort. Details on how to make donations and support the initiative will be provided through the player’s social networks.

The call for solidarity was extended to other players in the Dominican Republic Winter Baseball League, urging them to use their platform to support communities that have suffered the consequences of recent inclement weather. Díaz-Bonilla concluded the interview by inviting fans of Henry Urrutia and all the teams in the league to join this solidarity cause, highlighting that everyone can contribute, regardless of their affiliation with a specific team.
