Elian Leyva notched his third win of the season as he was masterful in Hermosillo’s 4-2 win over Mexicali. The righty tossed 6 ⅓ innings of seven-hit, two-run ball to watch his earned run average descend to 3.05 on the season. Leyva who is a two-time pitcher of the year in the Liga ARCO was in vintage form on the evening.
In Puerto Rico Pedro Echemendia continues to shine on the mound. Last night the native of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba threw an impeccable six innings where he only gave two hits and a run to lead Ponce to a 4-2 victory over Mayagüez. Echemendia also K’d three on the evening. Yanquiel Fernández and JC Escarra also drove in a run apiece to aid their countrymen’s cause.
Although he left without a decision Robert Roilan Portuondo was masterful. The right-hander from Guantánamo, Cuba tossed 5 ⅔ innings, giving up two runs via four hits and fanned four batters, but Rivas fell to Bóer 6-4 in the Nicaraguan Winter League. The hurler saw his ERA fall to 6.46 on the season.
