The Cuban Sub23 team debuted this Saturday with a 13-0 knockout victory against Costa Rica in the World Cup held in Nicaragua. A total of 13 hits were swatted by the Cuban offense in the game that took place in the recently inaugurated Roberto Clemente stadium in the city of Masaya,Nicaragua, four of those hits were for extra-bases (3 (2B) and a HR).
In the first inning the Cubans took command by scoring two runs after two outs (strikes out by Christian Rodríguez and Darian Palma). Guillermo García hit a double to the left and scored thanks to an error by the left fielder on a hit by Andrys Pérez, the second run came via a single to the center by Carlos Monier.
An inning later they would add another five more runs to the scoreboard to make it 7-0 in their favor. After two walks, Adrián Pérez (Andrys’ brother) smacked a two-run double and then scored Cuba’s fifth thanks to a Darian Palma ground out. The other two runs in the inning were driven in by a double by Andrys Pérez and a single again by Carlos Monier.

Alejandro Javier Escobar hit a home run to the left in the third to make the game 8-0. In the fourth they scored five again, this time via a Euclides Pérez (sacrifice fly), Adrián Pérez (H), Christian Rodríguez (H) and Darian Palma (H) ; Rodríguez scored run number 13 thanks to a wild pitch. Carlos Antonio Monier (3-3, R, 2RBI) and Adrián Jesús Pérez García (3-3, 2R, 2B, 3RBI) starred with the lumber along with Christian Rodríguez (4-2, 2R, RBI, K).
Dorvis Navarro notched the victory in the game, he worked four complete innings, gave up only one hit, walked two and struck out four batters. Reynaldo Álvarez pitched the fifth inning without complications and struck out a batter to close the contest. Cuba will play again this Sunday at 04:05 PM (Cuba time) against its counterpart from Curacao, this game will take place at the Soberanía National Stadium in Managua.
