Pedro León hit a three-run bomb in the third inning, but his best efforts couldn’t prevent a Caguas 7-4 loss to Ponce in the first game of a doubleheader. The outfielder knocked the first three runs of the winter and after one game is hitting .250.
For the winning Leones Cuban-American catcher JC Escarra swatted two hits in four trips to the plate and drove in two runs to pace Ponce in their victory. The All-Star catcher has now driven in 15 runs on the campaign. In the second game Yoanys Quiala tossed five innings of no-run, three-hit ball to lead the Lions to a 2-0 blanking of the Cangrejeros. The righty has yet to give a run in two starts in the LBPRC.
Dairon Blanco continues to swing a hot lumber, last night the speedster hit his second homerun in as many nights to once again be the catalyst in the Estrellas Orientales 4-1 triumph over the Tigres del Licey. Blanco drove in two runs on the night and is now hitting a robust .667 in the second phase of Dominican circuit.
