Guillermo García to play in the Frontier League.

Cuban Guillermo García has signed a new contract to play in a professional league this time with the Quebec Capitals of the Frontier League, an independent league that takes place in Canada and the United States during the summer. The 23-year-old player is coming off two seasons in the Chunichi Dragons farm system in the Nippon League where he debuted with the big ball club in 2022 hitting .111 in nine at-bats.

In 35 games last season with the Dragons’ junior club he hit .235 with two longballs, 10 runs batted in and slashed .336/.347/.683 , in addition to swatting five doubles and scoring 12 runs. García has played three National Series with the Alazanes de Granma in which he has played in 65 games where he has a career average .179, his best campaign being the 2019-2020 season when he drove in 12 runs in 26 games.

His most memorable moment in the Cuban circuit was the decisive hit he hit in the final of the 2021 National Series to leave the Matanzas team on the field and give Granma its third championship. Playing in Canada will be a new opportunity in the career of this young Cuban baseball prospect. A good in the league could serve as a springboard to a new contract in an advanced league, something similar to what happened with Santiago de Cuba’s Yoelkis Guibert who also played with the Québec Capitals and recently signed a contract with the Charros de Jalisco of the Mexican Baseball League.
