Last night Miguel Romero was splendid last night in the Tiburones de La Guaira, Venezuela’s representative in the Serie del Caribe’s 3-1 win over the Tigres del Licey of the Dominican Republic in an epic opening night match up.
The right-hander from Guantánamo, Cuba who hadn’t pitched in over a month held the DR bats to one run on five hits and fanned three. Romero used an array of pitches to keep the potent Dominican bats at bay.
Last night I spoke to Romero and he laid out his blueprint on how he was going to dominate the defending Caribbean champions and help his team get a leg up in the tournament.

How does your arm feel?
The arm is fine. I’m coming off an injury that wasn’t serious and I haven’t pitched since, but I feel very good.

Well, regarding speed, I was at 93-94 mph, but after the injury I didn’t throw anymore, only the bullpens and live BP’s.

Well, I think that against the Dominican Republic I will have to work a lot with off-speed stuff, because remember that in that league there are many pitchers who throw hard, so they are adapted to those pitches.
