After a stupendous performance in the Serie del Caribe sources have told the Cuban Baseball Digest that there are various teams in the Chinese Professional Baseball League interested in the services of right-hander Miguel Romero. The same sources tells me that CTBC Brothers might be the team most interested in Romero.
The native of Guantánamo, Cuba did not pitch for the last month of the season in Venezuela, but was masterful in the Serie del Caribe going 2-0 with key wins over Licey on Opening night and a semifinal victory versus Curaçao. In total the right-hander posted a 2.53 ERA. The hurler is signed to pitch in México this summer with the expansion Conspiradores de Querétaro of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol, but that could change if Taiwan comes a calling.

The 29-year-old also has the potential to unleash a mid 90’s fastball at any given time. With the inclusion of Romero in the World Classic Classic, Cuba had a one of strongest bullpens in the event and it showed as it reached the semifinals of the tournament for the second time in its history. The righty was the anchor of the Cuban pitching staff leading the WBC in wins (2), strikeouts (13) and placing in the top three in ERA (2.08) en route to all-tournament honors.
The right-hander was 3-3 with a 4.58 ERA this winter with the Tomateros de Culiacán and the Tiburones de La Guaira. Last winter Romero in the opinion of many was the most dominant relievers in the LBPRC. In 11.2 innings pitched during the campaign, the Cuban flamethrower did not allow an earned run for the Gigantes de Carolina and served up 11 strikeouts, while also saving a game.
