This list of Cuban ball players joining Mexican team’s training camps keeps growing daily. Yesterday it was revealed that two more Antilleans will be reporting to camp. Yoennis Yera signed once again with the Olmecas de Tabasco, while long-time LMB veteran Josuán Hernández was invited to camp by the Piratas de Campeche.
Yera has been a workhorse for the Olmecas that last two seasons compiling an 11-5 record, while fanning 155 batters in 155 innings pitched. Yera also tossed a no-hitter in 2022 for Tabasco. In 30 starts he posted a 3.19 ERA and 1.26 WHIP making him possibly the staff’s ace. With the departure of his countrymen Carlos Juan Viera to Querétaro, Yera’s return shores up a hole in the team’s staff.
In the case of Hernández he brings a dearth of experience and versatility to Campeche. Hernández has done everything but pitch during his time in the LMB. In his five seasons in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol Hernández hits a solid .324 while going yard 36 times and knocking in 177 runs. The Cuban’s addition to the roster could give them a solid utilityman for the campaign if he is to make the roster.
