Another Cuban to play in the LMBP.

Cuban reliever Reynaldo Álvarez, a member of the last Cuba U-23, will pitch for the defending champions of the Venezuelan Major League of Professional Baseball in 2024, Marineros de Carabobo. Álvarez had a brief stint with the Navegantes de Magallanes of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League, the country’s winter tournament. He is the fifth foreigner that the Marineros have added for the new season.

Álvarez who will turn 23 in July is playing in his third Serie Nacional with the Avispas de Santiago de Cuba. “I am returning to Venezuela to give 100% of myself to the team and help win games in any way possible.” said Álvarez the Venezuelan team’s press.
In the current Cuban tournament he has a record of one victory and two losses with three saves in 13 innings of work.

So far opponents have only hit .200 against , while he has struck out 18 (12.46 K9) and he has walked five. The righty has an ERA of 2.77 and a WHIP of 1.08. “It is a strong league, with a lot of quality players and you have to work hard for things to go well,” said Álvarez about his expectations for the upcoming season.
