Cionel Pérez tossed a scoreless ninth inning in which he fanned two of the three batters he faced to close out Baltimore’s 7-2 win over New York. Since his return from the IL the left-hander from Matanzas, Cuba has not allowed a run in two innings pitched.
The 28-year-old hurler has 36 holds and four saves over the last three seasons making him one of the most effective middle relievers in the game. Pérez figures to be a key piece once again in the Orioles pen.
Nick Fortes collected a hit in three trips to the plate and also knocked in a run to do his part in Miami’s 5-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. The Cuban-American catcher watched his average rise to .136 and has now driven in four runs on the season.
