Ariel Martínez hit his fourth homerun of the year, his only hit in three at-bats. The slugger from Matanzas also scored twice, drove in a run and walked two times to improve his average to .224 in Nippon Ham’s 6-3 win against the Chiba Lotte at the Es Con Field in Hokkaido.
Río Gómez continues to be one of the premier pitchers in CPBL. The right-hander from Miami tossed a scoreless inning in relief where he fanned two of three batters he faced in Wei-Chaun’s 5-3 win over TSG. The Cuban-American hurler won his second game of the season.
Gómez also watched his ERA descend to 1.71 and sports a 0.86 WHIP on the campaign. The righty is also second in circuit with seven holds and has struck out 25 batters in 21 innings pitched on the year.
