During yesterday’s action in the Venezuelan Major Professional Baseball League saw five Cubans in action. The Cuban bats were silenced, only Dariel Álvarez collected a hit on the evening, while José Ramón Rodríguez notched Camagüey his second victory of the Venezuelan summer tournament.
Rodríguez had his first quality start of the season in the 13-1 win in seven innings by the Samanes de Aragua (3-3) over the Marineros de Carabobo (3-3) at the José P. Colmenares Stadium in a game which lasted two hours and 37 minutes.
The Cuban right-hander worked for six full innings, gave up five hits (one double), allowed a run in the fourth inning, walked two and also struck out two hitters. The hurler now sports a 1.50 ERA (11.0 IP; 2 ER) on the campaign.
This is the fourth season of the Major League and the Samanes now have a 3-3 record, all the victories have come by way of Cuban pitchers, José Ramón has two, with yesterday’s triumph and Geonel Gutiérrez won in his debut last Wednesday for the club.
