Adrián Morejón notched the first save of his big league career after tossing a scoreless ninth inning during San Diego’s 9-8 win over Pittsburgh. The left-hander from Mayabeque, Cuba also fanned a batter and saw his ERA fall to 2.66 on the campaign.
Although it was in a loss Aroldis Chapman unleashed to 104 MPH pitches and struck out three of the four batters he faced in the inning to se his ERA fall to 3.59 on the season. The lefty has now fanned 70 in 42⅔ innings this year.
Yordan Álvarez went yard for the second consecutive game and 22nd time on the season. The Cuban slugger also drove in a run and also scored on an occasion to do his part in Houston’s 6-4 win over Texas. Álvarez is hitting a solid .308 over the last month.
Romy González swatted a third inning three-run bomb, but his best efforts could not save Boston from an 8-4 defeat at the hands of Kansas City. The Cuban-American utilityman is now hitting .284 on sports a solid .813 OPS. González has been a pleasant addition to the BoSox.
