Yordan Álvarez went yard twice, a pair of solo-shots in the fourth and sixth innings to do his part in Houston’s 7-2 win over Kansas City. The slugger from Las Tunas, Cuba now has 30 longballs on the season and has homered five times in his last seven games.
For KC, Yuli Gurriel made his season debut with a hit in three trips to the plate and drove in a run. With the slugger’s debut 33 Cubans have now played this season in the majors tying the previous record set during the 2020 season. Gurriel will likely play a big part in the Royals’ playoff push.
Adolis García swatted three hits in five at-bats and knocked in two runs to lead Texas to a 6-4 win over the Athletics. The outfielder is hitting .261 on the season and has driven in 66 runs on the campaign. In a subpar season García now has 23 doubles on the season.
