Yordan Álvarez Powers Astros to 8-0 Win with Two Home Runs, Ties Franchise Record

The Houston Astros cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, September 6, with Yordan Álvarez leading the charge. The Cuban slugger continued his recent hot streak, with two home runs to power Houston’s win at Minute Maid Park.

Álvarez’s first blast came in the fifth inning, launching a 407-foot, three-run homer into the second deck of right field with an exit velocity of 108.9 MPH, putting the Astros up 4-0.

In the seventh inning, Álvarez struck again, this time against reliever Jordan Montgomery. He crushed a 92 MPH sinker, sending the ball 420 feet towards center field with a exit velocity of 110.8 MPH, his second three-run homer of the game.

This marked Álvarez’s fourth multi-home run game, with previous performances on August 10, August 28, and September 1. His seven multi-homer games this season tied a franchise record, set by Chris Carter in 2014.

Álvarez’s two-home-run night also propelled him to second place all-time for multi-homer games within a player’s first 615 MLB games, surpassing Aaron Judge’s 20. Only Ralph Kiner, with 24, remains ahead of him.

Álvarez finished the game with six RBIs, bringing his season totals to 79 RBIs and 32 home runs. His current slash line is .310/.396/.574. Over his last 50 plate appearances, Álvarez has hit 7 home runs, driven in 13 RBIs, and posted a 1.226 OPS. So far in September, he’s hitting .263 with 4 home runs, 8 RBIs, and a 1.247 OPS.
