Raidel Martinez earned his 38th save of the season after allowing a hit in a scoreless inning of relief in the Chunichi Dragons’ 3-1 victory over the Yakult Swallows at the Vantelin Dome in Nagoya. The right-hander from Pinar del Río, Cuba earned his sixth save in six outings, while also watching his ERA descend to 1.04 on the season and also took the lead in saves in the Central League.
Martínez has now saved 160 games over his seven seasons in the Nippon and without a doubt is the most dominant reliever in the league’s history over the last decade and has drawn plenty of interest from major league scouts
Río Gómez tossed an inning in relief in which he allowed a hit, but no runs to notch his 24th hold in Wei-Chaun’s 5-2 win over TSG. The Cuban-American righty also struck out one and now a miniscule 0.97 earned run average. The hurler is now in the Chinese circuit in holds and has fanned 79 batters in 82⅓ innings pitched on the campaign.
