This Tuesday at the Press Conference that took place in the Adolfo Luque Hall of the Latin American stadium, the Cuban Baseball Federation announced the roster that will participate in the VI Edition of the Copa del Caribe, scheduled for Nassau, Bahamas, from the 23rd to the 28th. next October.
A roster of 22 players will be led by Pinar del Río’s skipper Alexander Urquiola, who will also receive the help of the Avispas de Santiago de Cuba manager, Eddy Cajigal. The squad will be made up of young talent thar stood out in this season’s Serie Nacional and will consist of two catchers, seven infielders, four outfielders and nine pitchers.
Urquiola, son of the great manager, Alfonso, has been gaining experience in the Serie Nacional applying what he learned from his father, he has been quite successful during recent years. He has managed the last two Cuban teams in the Under-15 category and in the National Series 63 he guided the Vegueros of Pinar del Río to second place finish.
This will be the second time that the Bahamas will host the main event organized by COCABE (Caribbean Baseball Confederation), as it already hosted the 2022 edition at the same venue this year, the Andre Rogers National Stadium, where Puerto Rico was crowned champion. Six countries in the region have already confirmed their participation, reported Theodore Sweeting, CEO of the organizing committee.
Cuba, current champion; Curacao, frequent member of these events; Dominican Republic, winner in the first two editions; United States Virgin Islands, Saint Martin, who will compete for the first time in this event and the Bahamas headquarters have confirmed their presence in this year’s event.
