Jean Walters: “I was born for this, I will always go out to give 100%.”

Jean Walters a Matanzas, Cuba native is one of the professional players who will participate with Cuba in the next Premier 12, currently he is the only player on the team’s  roster with an active contract with a major league organization. He spent two weeks in the training camp that took place at the Latinoamericano stadium in Havana, where he earned a place among the 28 players who made the team.

“I have felt very good, since I arrived on the first day my teammates approached me with tremendous kindness, welcoming me to the group. It’s feels like I’m talking to  family when I talk to my teammates. I was born for this, I have tremendous love for this sport, I was raised for this. When I put on the uniform and go out between those two lines it is to give my best, 100 %”, Walters commented in statements to the digital media Jit.

Walters is a high energy player and who’s enthusiasm was what captivated the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, who signed him in February 2020. At 23 years old, he has three seasons of experience in the minor, last season he saw action at the Double and Advanced A slashing .263/.304/.341/.641 with two homeruns and 28 RBIs over 88 games.

“Everything has gone well in training camp after a long trip, everything on the field is mental, if the mind is strong everything will flow well and everything will turn out well. The part of being a starter on the team is controlled by the coaches. I can only control what I do on the field and doing my bit wherever they want me to play (CF, RF, 2B), wherever I am given the opportunity I will be ready to help the team. I feel better at second base, but wherever they need me, I’ll be there,” added the utilityman to Cuban media.

“To meet some athletes that I watched since I was a child here is a dream. Every Cuban child from birth wants to play in the Serie Nacional and join a Cuban team to represent the country. Coinciding with some of these athletes who have already played in the World Classic, Premier 12, is something impressive. I never had the opportunity to play in the National Series, but we are here representing the four letters,” concluded the grandson of Erwin Walters, the first batting champion in the National Series.
