Yasiel Puig collected two hits in three trips to the plate including a first inning two-run single to set the pace in La Guaira’s 7-6 victory over Caracas in the LVBP. Also in Venezuela José Ramón Rodríguez tossed 4⅓ innings of five-hit, two-run ball during Anzoátegui’s 3-2 loss to Magallanes. The right-hander also fanned three to watch his ERA descend to 4.50 on the season. Richard Guasch also threw a scoreless inning for the Caribes in which he struck out two batters. The Nationals’ prospect has been one of the most dominant relievers in the circuit pitching eight scoreless innings and striking out 13 over that span.
In the Liga ARCO Yadir Drake swatted three hits in six at-bats, drove in two runs and also scored on an occasion to do his part in Guasave’s 8-1 thrashing of Jalisco. The slugger from Matanzas, Cuba has now knocked in 10 runs and watched his average rise to .306 on the campaign.
In the LIDOM José Barrero went yard for the first time on the season, while also scoring on occasion to due his part in the Estrellas Orientales 9-1 win over the Águilas Cibaeñas. For the Águilas JC Escarra made his LIDOM debut going 1-for-3 on the day with a run scored in a loss. Barrero and Escarra now hit .174 and .333 on the season respectively.
