Cuban slugger Pedro Pablo Revilla was declared a free agent by the office of the Commissioner of the Major Leagues and will be able to sign with one of the 30 organizations starting at the end of November, according to colleague Francys Romero via his social networks.
“Sources: Cuban INF/OF Pedro Revilla (25) was declared a free agent by the Commissioner’s Office and is eligible to sign with an MLB organization. Revilla had a brief stint in the Japan Professional League with Chunichi Dragons. He will soon hold a showcase in the Dominican Republic. Revilla was the HR leader (26) during the 2022-23 Cuban League season,” Francys posted on his profile on “X”.
The native of Guantanamo,Cuba debuted in the NPB during the 2022 season when he played a total of 21 games with the Chunichi Dragons, slashing an abysmal .203/.227/.281/.509, with 13 hits in 64, two doubles, one home run, three RBIs, two walks and 30 strikeouts.
During his first year on the organization’s farm system he played 15 games and did not do very well either, hitting .205 with a triple, two home runs and eight RBIs. During 2023 he only played in the minor leagues, there he played in 48 games and hit a paltry .188 with nine extra-base hits (6 2B and 3 HR).
At 25 years old, Revilla will seek to exhibit his talent in search of one day reaching the Major Leagues. The power-hitting Antillean must also improve his contact and shore up the holes in his swing in order to sign with any of the MLB organizations. With plenty of showcases on the horizon Revilla has the future in his hands.
