Vladimir Gutierrez is masterful in Águilas’ victory. (+Cuban Winter League Report)

Vladimir Gutierrez continues to make his case for the pitcher of the year in the LIDOM. The right-hander from Pinar del Río, Cuba tossed five innings in which he surrendered a run via four hits and fanned three in the Águilas Cibaeñas 6-3 win over the Toros del Este. The hurler saw his ERA fall to 1.90 on the campaign and leads the league with 23 strikeouts.

In the LVBP Leonys Martín went yard for the fifth time on the season,  a two-run shot in the third inning during La Guaira’s 5-4 to the Islas Margaritas. The Cuban slugger saw his average rise .230 and now has knocked in 17 runs on the season.

Yanquiel Fernández went downtown for the second time on the, drove in a run in and scored twice in Ponce’s 12-7 thrashing of the Criollos de Caguas. The Rockies’ prospect is hitting .286 in his second consecutive season with the Leones and has also driven in two run so far.
