Yuli Gurriel not only made his spring debut, but also made his first appearance with the San Diego Padres by smacking a hit in two trips to the plate and also scoring a run to do his part in the friars 10-3 win over the A’s. The infielder is fighting for a position on the team and has the inside track at a bench spot.
Ernesto Martínez went yard for the first time on the preseason and knocked two runs, while also scoring a run to do his part in Milwaukee’s 8-7 triumph over Reds. The outfielder has a staggering 1.250 OPS on the early spring. Martínez re-signed with the Brewers the offseason as a minor league free-agent and was given an invitation to camp.
Alexander Vargas went yard for the first time on the spring in his only trip to the plate, but the Yankees dropped a 6-4 decision to the Toronto Bluejays. The middle infielder has yet to make an out this preseason after two games. The young shortstop figures to start the season at Double-A.
