Infielder Luis Avilés Jr. will play with the Olmecas de Tabasco in the 2025 season in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol , one of the most prestigious summer leagues in the Caribbean. This will be Avilés Jr.’s third season in the LMB.
The infielder will share a clubhouse with seven other Cubans, at least during Spring Training. They are pitchers Yoennis Yera, Ariel Miranda, and Miguel Neira; infielders Félix Pérez and Osday Silva; and outfielders Roel Santos and Loidel Chapellí, who complete the Cuban roster in Tabasco.
Last season, Avilés Jr. played for three teams, the Caliente de Durango, Piratas de Campeche, and El Águila de Veracruz. He saw action in 84 games, hitting .271 with 13 home runs, three triples, and 19 doubles. He also knocked 54 runs and scored 50 times. The slugger arrived at the Olmecas preseason training camp a few days ago and recently spoke about his goals for the year with journalist Otto López.
How can you contribute to the Olmecas this season?
I think so. I was able to do last year in the south, playing and getting to know many teams. I already have an idea of what it’s like to play in the south.
What do you think of Willy Romero as Olmecas’ manager?
I haven’t dealt with him much, I haven’t spoken to him; but I have heard many good things about him and what he’s done in the Venezuelan league. For me, it will be an honor and a pleasure to have a manager like that leading us.
What can the Olmecas fans expect from you?
What I can tell them is to come and support us. My teammates and I will give 100% when we step onto the field; they are our motivation and emotion on the field this year.
What are you going to do to help this team reach the postseason?
That’s the goal: to give my all and find a way to contribute to the team’s victories to reach the playoffs, which is the most important thing. And then, God willing, bring a championship to the Tabasco fans.
