Yordan Álvarez swatted a game-tying two-run ninth inning homerun, his first on the season and also drove in a run earlier in the game to lead Houston to a 5-4 win in extra frames. For the Las Tunas, Cuba native it was his first roundtripper of the season and he has now driven in seven runs this year.
Jorge Soler blasted a sixth inning solo-shot, his second on the season to do his part in the Angels’ 6-2 win over Cleveland. The slugger in total knocked in two runs, while also scoring on an occasion and watched his average rise to .219 on the season. Soler now has 193 homers in his major league career.
Aroldis Chapman tossed a scoreless tenth inning in which he fanned two of the four batters he faced to hold a tie in a game that the Bosox managed to win in 10 innings 5-4. For the Cuban left-hander it was his second win of the young campaign in relief. The hurler has yet to allow and earned run in 3⅔ innings pitched this season.
Nick Castellanos belted a third inning grand slam that was the key blow in Philadelphia’s 8-7 win over the World Champion Dodgers. The Cuban-American has now gone yard twice and is hitting .258 with five RBIs on the season.
