Edgar Quero Notches First MLB Hit in White Sox Loss

Chicago White Sox catcher Edgar Quero recorded his first career hit on Friday, a double, as the White Sox fell to the Boston Red Sox, 10–3, at Fenway Park.

The 22-year-old Cuban connected in the ninth inning with two outs and a runner on first, turning on a 96 mph four-seam fastball from Red Sox reliever Josh Winckowski. The ball carried into the left-field for a double—Quero’s first hit in five Major League at-bats.

Quero finished the night 1-for-2 and is now batting .200 through his first five Major League at-bats since being called up. Ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the White Sox system and the ninth-best catching prospect in all of baseball (No. 62 overall per MLB Pipeline), Quero was acquired from the Angels in the 2023 trade that sent Lucas Giolito to Los Angeles.

Last season, he hit .280 with 16 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A. Before his promotion, Quero was batting .333 with an .856 OPS over 15 games in Triple-A Charlotte.

With his debut, Quero becomes the 24th Cuban to appear in the Majors this season and the 15th Cuban position player to do so in 2025. He is also the 27th Cuban to play for the White Sox, continuing a legacy that began over 100 years ago with the debut of José “Acostica” Acosta in 1922.

The White Sox, now 4–15, continue to search for answers in a tough start to the season. But for Quero, Friday marked an important step forward in what the organization hopes will be a long and productive Major League career.
