The Los Angeles Angels announced several trades this Wednesday, involving players from different levels of the franchise. Cuban pitcher Víctor Mederos is one of the key players in these moves, as he will make the jump from Class A Advanced to MLB.
In the information published by several media sites, in addition to the Villa Clara native’s call-up to majors from the Tri-City Dust Devils, the organization’s moves include the selection of RHP Carl Edwards Jr., the designation for assignment of RHP Ian Anderson, and the optioning of right-hander Michael Darrel-Hicks to Triple-A.
Mederos already knows what it’s like to pitch in the big leagues, during 2023 and 2024, he had brief stints on the grand stage, but his results weren’t as expected, and was sent back to the minor leagues, where he began the 2025 season.
When he pitches for the Los Angeles Angels, the right-hander will become the 25th Cuban to see action in the Majors in 2025 and the third to do so for the franchise, which also boasts the services of Jorge Soler and Yoan Moncada.
Víctor Mederos posted strong numbers in his in Advanced A this year despite suffering two losses. In three outings, all as a starter, he had an ERA of 3.52 (6 ER; 15.1 IP). Opponents batted .288 against him (17 H; 59 AB). He retired 14 batters via the strikeout, walked only three, and had a 1.30 WHIP.
