Raidel Martínez earned his ninth save of the season on Wednesday, retiring all three batters he faced in a single inning of relief in the Yomiuri Giants’ 2-0 win over the Hiroshima Carp at the Tokyo Dome. The pitcher from Pinar del Río, Cuba kept his ERA at 0.00, moving just one save away from the lead in that category in the NPB Central League.

In 11⅔ this season the right-hander has yet to allow a run and sports a sparkling 0.94 WHIP. The flamethrowing Cuban has been one of the most dominant closers over his eight years in the nippon circuit amassing 174 saves over that span.

For Chunichi Christian Rodríguez made his season debut after being called up from the minors. The infielder went 0-for-1 with a strikeout as a pinch-hitter in Chunichi’s 5-4 win over Hanshin. Rodríguez started on Opening Day for the ballclub last season.
