Oscar Colás signs with the Angels.

Santiago de Cuba native Oscar Colás received a new opportunity in attempt to revive his career in the MLB system after signing a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Angels, pending physicals. The scoop was revealed yesterday by our colleague Francys Romero on social media.

The source indicated that the Cuban is expected to begin his career with the franchise’s Double-A affiliate. This move represents a second wind in the career of one of the best Cuban prospects of the last five years, after being waived this Saturday by the Chicago White Sox.

His time with the franchise, although it saw him fulfill his goal of making his MLB debut, did not live up to the high expectations aroused by the man once known as “The Cuban Othani” for his duality as a pitcher and hitter, demonstrated in Cuba and Japan.

The White Sox signed him in January 2022 for a not inconsiderable $2.7 million, making him the No. 5 prospect available during that international signing period.During his time in the majors with Chicago he hit .223 with five longballs and 23 runs batted in over 278 at-bats, while also slashing .271/.309/.580 over that span in the “Windy City”.

In the pale holes minor league system he slashed with .271/.342/.450/.792 with 44 homeruns and 171 RBIs. Colás made the White Sox Opening Day roster out of camp in 2023.
