Liván Moinelo delivered one of the best starting performances of his career this Friday, striking out a remarkable 13 in nine innings. With this strong outing, he reached six wins in the 2025 season and remains undefeated. These 13 strikeouts add to the 18 he delivered in his previous outing, bringing his total to 31 in his last two starts, in which 17 innings pitched over that span.
He has now racked up three games with 10 or more strikeouts and has 11 quality starts on the season. Moinelo has cemented himself as one of the best pitchers in Japanese baseball. With these 13 strikeouts, Moinelo moved to first among the Pacific League strikeout leaders with 89, surpassing Tatsuya Imai of the Seibu Lions. In terms of wins, he’s the joint-leader in the circuit with six, demonstrating that this year he could surpass his performance in 2024, in which he also had a great season.
Moinelo tossed nine solid innings on the evening, allowing three hits and one run (a home run) in the SoftBank Hawks’ 4-1 victory over Yakult Swallows. He also didn’t issue any walks on the evening. In 78.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 89 and walked only 16. In that span, he has allowed only 11 runs, posting a miniscule 1.27 ERA, which ranks him as the league leader in that category. Moinelo is on pace to surpass the 11 wins he achieved in 2024.
