The Colorado Rockies have called up power-hitting outfielder Yanquiel Fernández to the majors. The native of Havana had been swinging a hot stick at Albuquerque (AAA). Fernández becomes the 29th Cuban to see action
In 64 games this season with the Isotopes the slugger is hitting .284 with 14 doubles, 13 homeruns and 39 runs batted in, while also slashing .347/.502/.849 over that span. Fernández signed with Colorado in 2019 for 295K as international free agent is the #5 prospect in the team’s farm system.
Although he improved his contact this season Fernández still has a few holes in his, but his immense power makes up for that shortcoming. In the field the field he will be relegated to a corner outfielder and although he had an above average arm he doesn’t cover grand well and takes bad routes to the ball.
