Geisel Cepeda, who is the cousin of Serie Nacional legend Frederich Cepeda has signed with the Tiburones de La Guaira for only the winter only weeks after being announced as a signing by the Caliente de Durango of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol.
The ex-MLB prospect had a strong season in the Liga Mayor de Venezuela this year slashing .413/.468/.513/.981 with three homeruns, 34 runs batted in and seven stolen bases in 167 at-bats with the Caciques del Distrito.
“This summer league, the Liga Mayor de Béisbol (LMBP), was a tremendous boost to my career. It helped me a lot to achieve the goals I want, which is to return to the MLB system again. I got this contract for the winter thanks to God and the results I had in the league, and now I’m also going to start playing in Mexico with the Caliente de Durango. That’s also thanks to the results and statistics I achieved there in the league,” Geisel Cepeda told me this morning about his future signings in the summer and winter.
The 27-year-old played two seasons in the Texas Rangers’ farm system reaching as far as Frisco (AA). In 147 games in the team’s minor league system he hit .247 with six longballs and 58 RBIs. Cepeda will be activated by the Caliente de Durango of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol. His results this winter in Venezuela will determine his future endeavors.
