Cuban prospect Luis Danys Morales is headed to the Major Leagues at 22 years of age. According to a report by our colleague Francys Romero, the Holguín, Cuba native was called up to MLB and is expected to be activated tomorrow. Morales signed with the Athletics in 2023 for a multi-million dollar bonus after escaping from a Mexican airport where Cuba was scheduled to compete in the U-23 World Cup in 2021.
Four years later, he will fulfill his dream of pitching in MLB. He is currently ranked as the 80th overall prospect in baseball, third among the Athletics. In 2025, between Double-A and Triple-A, he has a 7-3 record with a 3.73 ERA (89.1 IP; 37 ER) in 23 outings (14 starts) and has 107 strikeouts (10.78 K9). Opponents are hitting just .207 against him and he has a WHIP of 1.14.
He will be the 25th Cuban to play for the Athletics, the sixth this century after Yoenis Céspedes, Yonder Alonso, Kendrys Morales, Norge Luis Ruiz, and Aledmys Díaz. He will also become the 31st Cuban-born player to play in MLB in 2025, and the fifth to debut this year after Edgar Quero, Victor Mesa Jr., Lázaro Estrada, and Yanquiel Fernández.
