Aroldis Chapman has officially been extended by the Boston Red Sox. He will earn $12M in 2026 plus $1M signing bonus. Back in 2023, he signed for $3.75M with the Royals. After that devaluation year he could make nearly $50M from 2024–27 seeing that he pitches at least 40 innings in 2026 activating the contracts vesting option.
His numbers this season with the Red Sox have been astronomical. In 57 outings, he’s accumulated 26 saves in 28 attempts over 52 innings of work, allowing just 21 hits, six earned runs, and a microscopic 1.04 ERA. He’s also fanned 74 strikeouts, allowed 14 walks, with a 0.67 WHIP and opponents hitting .119 against him.
So far in August, he’s been practically untouchable: in 11 appearances, the only man who managed to reach base did so via walk. His WHIP this month so far is 0.10, a figure that reflects absolute dominance. He also did not allow earned run and opponents hit .000 over that span, while also accumulating 11 saves in as many trips to the mound.
The flamethrowing left-hander is also reserving himself a spot in Cooperstown. With at least two more seasons assured in the big leagues he could easily eclipse 400 saves, he has 362 as of yesterday and 1,323 strikeouts leave him third on the All-time list for relievers, only 40 short of Hoyt Wilhelm’s mark. His 9 All-Star selections are tops amongst Cubans in MLB, while he 2.52 ERA and 1.07 WHIP are elite.
