A new series featuring Julio Estrada’s account highlighting on how Cuban players are brought into the US is in the works. Estrada, who was convicted of smuggling players into the United States to help them sign with Major League Baseball will be the main focus of the program.
The yet untitled miniseries will also focus on the testimony Leonys Martín, José Abreu, Omar Luis and Dailer Hinojosa, all major players in the smuggling case. After nine years of investigation, trial and incarceration Julio Estrada who is finally free will tell us his side of the story and about his experiences throughout this ordeal. This landmark case changed how Cuban players sign with MLB in the current day.
Estrada is an ex-Serie Nacional catcher with the Industriales of La Habana and a renowned trainer that has over three decades of experience in organized baseball. The series will also give us an in depth look of the trials and tribulations of Estrada while he was on trial for his life against the federal government with agent Bart Hernández.
Today the native of Santa Clara, Cuba is into sports media as a member of the popular Pelota Cubana midday show with Yordano Carmona and continues to train players in the Dominican Republic in preparation for future signings with Major League organizations. This soon-to-be program has the likings a futurely acclaimed docuseries.
