Andy Ibáñez reached an agreement late last week with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the upcoming 2026 season, according to reports from several sources close to the situation. Ibáñez was a free agent after failing to reach a deal with his former team, the Detroit Tigers.
The news of this new contract for the Cuban player was reported by the colleague Francys Romero on his X (formerly Twitter) account. Romero added that Ibáñez is awaiting his physical examination. He also clarified that the contract is guaranteed for one year 1.2 million dollar deal with 100K in performance bonuses.
The utilityman played with the Detroit Tigers in 2025. He saw action in a total of 91 games with the organization, accumulating 176 at-bats and recording 42 hits during that time and hitting .239 over that span. Ibáñez also swatted four home runs and eight doubles, and drove in 21 runs. The infielder also spent time with Detroit’s Triple-A affiliate, where he posted encouraging numbers.
Ibáñez is also a strong candidate to represent Cuba in the upcoming 2026 World Baseball Classic, which will be held in March. The Cuban has already participated in this event with the national team and is considered one of the players who could have the biggest impact for Cuba in the Classic.
