Yasiel Puig goes yard in a Magallanes loss. (+Cuban Winter League Report)

Although the Navegantes de Magallanes fell to the Caribes de Anzoátegui 9-6 in the Venezuelan Round Robin, Yasiel Puig swatted a homerun in four trips to the plate and also scored on an occasion. The outfielder now hits a paltry .211 and Magallanes hold a 1-5 record during the LVBP postseason.

Also in Venezuela left-hander Darién Núñez tossed a 1⅔ of scoreless baseball during the Isla Margaritas’ 6-4 loss to the Águilas de Zulia. The flamethrowing hurler saw his earned run average drop to 10.38 in the playoffs.

Orlando Martínez collected a hit a in three at-bats and scored a run to do his part in Culiacán’s 6-4 win over Guasave during the Liga ARCO’s semifinal playoff series. The Cuban slugger now hits .258 over the Mexican postseason and is a candidate for the league’s Most Valuable Player.
