Yordan Álvarez’s two homers power Houston to a victory. (+Cuban MLB Report)

Yordan Álvarez swatted two longballs and drove in two runs in four trips to the plate to lead the Houston Astros in their 8-5 win over the Miami Marlins. The Cuban now leads the American League in average (.324), homeruns (33) and runs batted in (75).

Víctor Mesa Jr went yard for the third straight day, his only hit in four at-bats and this eighth homerun on the campaign to help Tampa Bay in their 7-1 thrashing of the Toronto Bluejays. The native of Villa Clara, Cuba saw his average rise to .218 on the year.

Nick Fortes also got in on the act with his own longball and also scored twice to aid the cause. For the Cuban-American catcher it was his third homerun of the season and now hits .258 to go along with 21 runs batted in.

Víctor Mederos notched the first save of his major league career of pitching a scoreless 2⅓ innings in which he walked and struck out a batter during the Atlanta Braves 3-2 triumph over the San Diego Padres. The reliever now sports a miniscule 0.96 on the year.

Andy Pagés collected two hits in four at-bats, including a sixth inning run-scoring single during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 10-7 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. The outfielder saw his average rise to .269 and has also driven in 68 runs on the campaign.

Aroldis Chapman notched his 22nd save of the season during which he allowed, walked a batter and fanned two to secure the Boston Red Sox’s 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The flamethrowing left-hander saw his earned run average descend to 1.99 on the season and has now saved 389 games in his storied career.
